Softball: Raiders Sweep Wilmington on Senior Night

ALLIANCE, Ohio--A three-run home run for senior Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South) helped push the Raiders to a sweep of Wilmington-- 10-2 and 10-9-- in the final Ohio Athletic Conference games of the season at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders end the season 13-19 overall and 6-12 in the OAC while Wilmington finishes the season 7-31 overall and 2-16 in conference play.

In game two, Siedlak hit a three-run home run over the center field fence in the bottom of the sixth inning giving the Raiders a 9-7 lead.

The Quakers held on scoring two runs in the seventh inning tying the game before junior Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) hit a walk-off single as the Raiders defeated Wilmington 10-9 in game two.

Wilmington got on the board first scoring five runs off of six hits in the third inning of game two followed by a pair of doubles in the fourth inning leading 7-0 before the Raiders combined for nine runs over the next two innings.

Earning the win on the mound was sophomore Allie Scalli (Parma/Parma) throwing eight strikeouts and advancing to a 4-8 record on the season.

In game one, the Raiders got an early 7-1 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Megan Okuda (Gibsonia, Pa/Pine-Richland) hit a triple to center field sending three runners home followed by two singles as the Raiders capitalized on four Wilmington errors leading to the 7-1 first inning.

The Quakers earned their second and final run of the game in the top of the fourth with a sacrafice fly sending a runner to score.

Mount Union answered with a three-run bottom of the fourth as Siedlak earned an RBI off a single on senior night.

Mount Union went on to take game one 10-2 in five innings.

Earning the win on the mound for the Raiders was junior Erin Simmons (Suffield/Field) giving up just five hits and advance her record to 6-8 on the season.
