Mount Union men's basketball will face Baldwin-Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday. The game is schedule for a 7:30 p.m. start at Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
Kukura leads Mount Union in scoring, averaging 18.4 points per game. He is currently third in the OAC in scoring. Along with Kukura, three other Raiders average double figures, including Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) with 13.8, Jake Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) with 13.4, and Scelza with 12.1. Ruffin leads the team in rebounding (7.8) and is fourth in the OAC.
Baldwin Wallace enters the game off a 96-88 loss to Muskingum. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fell to 10-7, 5-5 in the OAC. Jake Fetherolf led Baldwin Wallace with 30 points. Cam Kuhn also added 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Kuhn leads Baldwin Wallace and the OAC in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game while Fetherolf also averages double figures (12.5). Fetherolf also leads the team and the OAC in rebounding with 9.9 per game.
Previous Meeting
The last meeting between these two teams resulting in a double overtime win for Mount Union, 110-109. Kukura led the Raiders in the game with 33 points while Cam Kuhn dropped 51 points for the Yellow Jackets. The Jackets had a 17 point lead , 60-43 in the first six minutes of the second half and Mount Union was able to come back to tie the game to end regulation.
Mount Union took its first lead of the game on a three-pointer from Kukura to start the overtime. BW would again regain the lead until Jacubec hit a three pointer to again tie the game and send it to double overtime. The second overtime started with Kukura scoring the Raiders first 10 points to build a six-point lead 102-96 with 2:06 left. Again it was Jacubec late as he went 4-of-4 from the line in the final 10 seconds to seal the win.
Coaches
Mike Fuline (Kent State '98) is in his fifth season at Mount Union with an overall record of 80-48. Fuline has won an OAC regular season and tournament title and was the 2015 Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year leading the Raiders to the NCAA Sweet 16. Before coming to Alliance, Fuline spent six years as head coach of Massillon Jackson High School and won the 2011 OHSAA Division I Boys State Basketball Championship.
Tom Heil (Bluffton '07) is in his first year at Baldwin Wallace. He five years as an assistant at BW before taking over as the head coach at Defiance last season where he went 22-7 winning both Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles with an NCAA Tournament win. He has a combined head coaching record of 32-14.
