CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team split another pair of games on the second day of competition in Clermont, Fla.

Mount Union (2-2) was defeated by Catholic (D.C.), 5-4, in an eight innings then defeated Elizabethtown (Pa.) 2-1.   

Against Catholic (D.C.), Mount Union's Brittany Baitt (Painsville/Riverside) scored in the top of the first off of a ground out by Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick).  In the top of the fourth, a home run from Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) with Logan Lehman(Orrville/Orrville) on base would put the Raiders up 3-0.  

Catholic would respond in the bottom of the fourth with three runs to tie the game at 3-3. The Raiders and the Cardinals would have a tie game 5-5 going into the top of the eighth. Calhoun would score with a single from Jessica Kennedy (Beach City/Fairless) to put the Raiders up 6-5, but Catholic would respond with two runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 7-6 win.

In the circle, VanSickle allowed four runs on five hits with two strikeouts while Alli Scali (Parma/Parma) took the loss with allowing three runs, four hits with four strikeouts.

Against Elizabethtown, Scali won her first game of the season as she threw a complete game allowing four hits, a run with three strikeouts. The Raiders scored their runs in the bottom of the second and the bottom of the seventh. In the second, VanSickle scored with a sacrifice fly from Scali.

Elizabethtown would get their run in the top of the first with the game being tied until the bottom of the seventh. Baitt, Jordan Tull (Brewster/Fairless),and Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) would all hit singles to have the bases loaded. Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) would end the game with an RBI to score Tull.

Mount Union plays against Alma (Mich.) at 11:00 a.m. and St. John Fisher at 1:00 a.m. tomorrow.
