CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team split a pair of games on the fourth day of competition in Clermont, Fla.

Mount Union (4-4) was defeated by Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in five innings, 12-4, in its first game of the day. The Purple Raiders came back from that loss and defeated Lake Superior State (Mich.) 8-6.

Against Johnson and Wales, Mount Union scored two in the top of the first with Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) hit a double to drive in Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) and Brittany Baitt (Painsville/Riverside)

Johnson & Wales then scored 12 unanswered runs with three in the first, three in the second and a six-run third inning to blow the game open.

Lehman drove in two more runs for Mount Union in the fourth but the rallied end there and the game ended in five innings, 12-4.

In the circle, Andi Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) would take the loss as she allowed six runs, eight hits and had two strike outs.

Against Lake Superior State, it was Lehman again getting the offense going for the Raiders as her RBI single in first staked Mount Union to a 1-0 lead.

Mount Union extended the lead to 4-0 with a three-run second inning as Jordan Tull (Brewster/Fairless), Kramer and Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) all had RBI singles.

Vansickle hit a two-run home run, her third of the week, in the third that pushed the lead to 6-0.

Mount Union took advantage of an error and Lehman had an RBI single in the fourth that gave the Raiders an 8-0 lead but Lake Superior State came back with a four-run fifth to make it 8-4.

The Raiders got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI groundout from Tull which left the score 9-4.

Lake Superior State rallied again with a two-run home run in the sixth to cut the lead to 9-6 and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh before pitcher Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) finished things for the complete game victory.

Scali, who had eight strikeouts, picked up her second win of the season.

Mount Union plays Thursday at 5 p.m. against Neumann (Pa.) and at 7 p.m. against Rose-Hulman (Ind.) in Florida.
