Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's softball team split a pair of games against No. 21 Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Mount Union's three seniors, Andi Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville), Erin Simmons (Suffield/Field) and Torie Gable (Norton/Norton) were honored in between games for their last home game of the season.
The Purple Raiders won game one 7-5, making that the Cardinals first OAC loss of the season and then dropped game two, 13-6, which makes their record 22-16 overall and 8-8 in the OAC while Otterbein is 28-4-2 overall and 14-1 in the OAC.
Sophomore Brittany Baitt (Painsville/Riverside) went 7-6 with two RBI's on the day going 3-4 in the first game and 3-3 in the second game.
In game one, Mount Union scored the first four runs of the game in the bottom of the second with sophomore Jordan Tull (Brewster/Fairless) getting a single RBI to start off the runs.
Otterbein earned two runs in the top of the third trying to come within Mount Union, but still trailed the Raiders 4-2.
Junior Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) started off the bottom of the fifth with a home run getting the Raiders up to a 5-2 lead.
The Cardinals then had a three run inning in the top of the sixth, tying the game 5-5.
Mount Union wouldn't let that stop them as they scored two more runs off a Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) and Vansickle singles to lead Otterbein 7-5.
Otterbein could not score in the bottom of the seventh, taking their first OAC loss of the season.
On the mound for the Raiders, junior Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) earned the win making her record 11-9 having five strikeouts and allowing six hits.
In game two, the Raiders again started with the first four runs in the bottom of the fourth with sophomore Shelby Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) starting off the runs with a single to right field.
Otterbein came within one earning three runs in the top of the fifth and took the lead in the top of the fourth with two more runs leading Mount Union 5-4.
The Raiders scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth until the Cardinals had a five run inning in the top of the sixth and a three run inning in the top of the seventh, leading Mount Union 13-5.
Mount Union tried to make a comeback with another Andi Vansickle single, but could not close out the game losing to Otterbein 13-6.
Simmons took the loss for the Raiders as she is now 11-5 on the season.
Mount Union next travels to Wilmington Saturday, April 30 for their last regular season OAC doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
