Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio—Mount Union's women's lacrosse earned a tight 7-6 victory over Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Columbus. With this victory, Mount Union clinches a share of the OAC Regular Season Title.
The Purple Raiders, now 12-3 and 6-0 in the OAC, was led by Taylor Pensyl (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) and Emily Bergert (North Canton/Hoover) who both scored two goals.
Capital was led by Kara Hines who recorded a game-high four goals.
In the first half, Capital took the first command of the day when Hines scored within the first six minutes of play. Pensyl tied the game with a goal of her own at the 17:13 mark in the first half. Bergert helped Mount Union take its first lead of the day when shed scored with 13:06 remaining in the half. The Crusaders then scored two unanswered goals to lead 3-2 at a halftime.
Bergert's goal at the 22:34 mark in the second half helped the Raiders tie the game, 3-3. This started a 3-0 run for Mount Union, and Kolbie Haines (Hudson/Hudson) scored with 17:06 remaining in the game to give the Raiders its biggest lead of the day, 5-3. Another goal by Hines at the 08:02 mark brought the Crusaders back within one score, 6-5. Katie Elder (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) scored with 07:11 remaining in the game to seal the victory for the Raiders. For the game, Mount Union recored nine points and 13 groundballs.
Mount Union is back in action next Saturday, April 30th, as they host Otterbein for Senior Day. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
