Women's Soccer: Mount Union Falls to Wooster in Season Opener

Box Score

WOOSTER, Ohio-The Mount Union women's soccer team fell to Wooster 2-0 in their first game of the season.

The Purple Raiders (0-1) started off strong but the Scots (1-0) gained a quick lead early in the first half, with midfielder Devin Frisby scoring the Scots' first goal in the 8th minute of the game. The Raiders fought hard but couldn't find the back of the net, which left the team down by one going into halftime.

The Raiders began the second half with a blocked shot by senior Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary) and a save by sophomore Claudia Boryka (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview) in the first nine minutes. Sophomore Hailee Brown (Chesterland/West Geauga) also had a shot on goal, which was narrowly saved by Wooster goalkeeper Carly Eppler.

Eppler recorded two more saves on shots by junior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) and freshman Lauren Beech (Hanoverton/United Local) before the Scots' Krissy Blanchard found the back of the Raiders' net, making the score 2-0 in the 69th minute of the game.

The Raiders were held off through the remainder of the half, ending in a 2-0 deficit.

Mount Union next hosts Mt. St. Joseph on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m.
