Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Sophomore Maggie O'Donnell's (Avon/Avon) sixth goal of the year on an assist from Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) in the 82nd minute sealed the Mount Union Senior Day victory over Wilmington by a final score of 2-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
With the win, the Purple Raiders advance their record to 10-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the OAC while Wilmington drops to 5-9-2 and 1-5-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, each team got on the board early in the second half. Lanese scored her 15th goal on the year, unassisted, just 17 seconds into the second half to make the score 1-0. Wilmington answered in the 49th minute to tie the game on the sixth goal of the year from Ashley Lovett. Just when the game looked like it may go into overtime, O'Donnell got the pass from Lanese and fired a 25 yard shot into the back of the net for the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute.
Senior goalkeeper Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) faced 4 shots and recorded three saves on the afternoon while playing all 90 minutes.
The Raiders will host John Carroll Tuesday, October 24th at 7:30 p.m. for their final home game of the year.
