Softball: Raiders Split a Pair of OAC Games With Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio- Mount Union's softball team split a pair of games to Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Heidelberg Saturday afternoon in Tiffin, Ohio.

The Purple Raiders (8-12, 2-2 OAC) won the first the first game 7-5 then lost to the Student Princes 3-2 in the second game.

In game one, the Raiders got the first run of the game as Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) double to right center to get on base as Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) singled to left field to drive Cox in.

Heidelberg answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the second and two runs in the bottom of the third to get a 3-1 lead over Mount Union.

The Raiders had a big fifth inning to get a 5-3 lead over the Student Princes as Emily Hume (Minerva/Minvera) started off the inning with a triple to left center.

Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa./Charleoi) drove in Hume on a RBI single as Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick) and Cox each had an RBI to drive in two other Raiders to end the inning.

The Student Princes got back within one of the Raiders, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth.

The Raiders sealed the game in the seventh inning with five runs on four hits as the Student Princes had one error.

Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) got the seventh inning started with a double to right center.  Riley and Kramer each had an RBI while Brittany Baitt (Painesville/Riverside) had two RBI to get Mount Union a 10-4 lead over Heidelberg.

The Student Princes only got one run in the bottom of the seventh as Mount Union got the win.

On the mound, Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) pitched a full seven innings only allowing five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Scali is now 3-7 on the season.

Heidelberg got the second game started with a run in the bottom of the third. Mount Union responded with a run in the top of the fifth inning with an error by the Student Princes to tie the game a one.

Heidelberg took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth as a throwing error on Cox pushed a Student Prince to second base, to then score on the next two plays.

A double by Lehman drove in a run along with an RBI got the Raiders within one of the Student Princes, 3-2, in the sixth inning.

Heidelberg had no runs in the bottom of the sixth, but three straight outs for the Raiders in the seventh gave the Student Princes the 3-2 win.

On the mound, Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minvera) took the loss as she allowed three runs on seven hits and had three strikeouts. Reusser is now 5-5 on the season.

Mount Union hosts Marietta in their home opener Wednesday, April 5 at 3:00 and 5:00 PM at 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio
