Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's softball team swept Muskingum in a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games with Wednesday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (17-17, 9-5 OAC) defeated the Fighting Muskies 5-1 in the first game and 6-5 in the second game.
Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) led the Raiders with a .833 hitting percentage on the day with two RBI.
Muskingum started off the game with a run in the top of the third but a single from Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) got Mount Union going in the bottom. Lehman hit a double to right field to drive in Kramer tying the game, 1-1.
Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) started off the bottom of the fourth with a double to right field. Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick) drove in Cox to get a 2-1 lead over the Fighting Muskies.
An RBI single from Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa./Charleoi) drove Lehman in who hit a triple to right field on the play before. A two-run homerun from Calhoun got the Raiders a 5-1 lead going into the seventh.
The Fighting Muskies could not get a hit in the bottom of the seventh as the Raiders got the win.
On the mound, Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) only allowed one run on four hits as she had five strikeouts. Scali moves to 5-9 on the season.
In game two, the Fighting Muskies got off to another good start as they had one run off of two hits leading the Raiders 1-0.
Baitt answered with a triple up the middle to then score on a wild pitch. Riley then hit her fifth homerun of the year on two outs to get Mount Union a 2-1 lead.
A Calhoun single to left field and a sacrifice fly from Baitt drove two Raiders in to get a 4-1 lead going into the third inning.
Two runs off of five hits put the Raiders up 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth but the Fighting Muskies drove in two runs on two outs in the fifth to put the score at 6-3. Another two runs brought Muskingum within one of Mount Union, 6-5, going into the bottom of the sixth.
The Raiders held off the Fighting Muskies in the last inning as they defeated Muskingum 6-5.
Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minerva) pitched a full seven innings allowing five runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts. Reusser improves to 10-7 on the season.
Mount Union next travels to Westerville, Ohio for an OAC doubleheader to take on the Otterbein Cardinals Saturday, April 22 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
