Women's Lacrosse: Rohrman's Overtime Goal Lifts Mount Union to Big Road Conference Win

Box Score

BEREA, Ohio -- Freshman Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md./Sherwood) scored the game-winning overtime goal in Mount Union's 10-9 Ohio Athletic Conference win over Baldwin Wallace Wednesday night at Finnie Stadium in Berea.

Mount Union (10-3, 7-1 OAC) was led by Rohrman who scored three goals in the win, which ultimately led the Purple Raiders to hand the Yellow Jackets (12-3, 7-1 OAC) their first conference loss of the season.

The Raiders took an early first half lead when Junior Britt Klosterman (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) scored a goal just 58 seconds into the game. Rohrman followed with a goal from a free position shot less than a minute later to put Mount Union up 2-0 with 28:18 on the clock.

Baldwin Wallace tied the game at two after scoring back-to-back goals, but junior Katie Elder (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) and sophomore Alyssa Rydell (Medina/Medina) responded with a goal each to give Mount Union a 4-2 lead with nine minutes left in the half. The Yellow Jackets notched two goals in the remaining minutes to tie the game at four before the break.

The Yellow Jackets scored a goal in the opening minute of the second half to take a 5-4 lead. The Raiders' defense held Baldwin Wallace off for almost 11 minutes before falling another goal behind. Freshman Mackenzie Pensyl (Kent/Roosevelt) cut the lead to one goal 59 seconds later, but the Yellow Jackets struck again to take a 7-5 lead.

Sophomore Ashley Bernardi (Medina/Medina) brought the Raiders within one goal of Baldwin Wallace, 7-6, half way into the second half and sparked a scoring run for the Raiders. A free position goal by Rohrman tied the game at seven with just over twelve minutes to go, which was followed with another goal by Elder at the 10:56 mark.

Baldwin Wallace tied the game at eight with 9:29 on the clock before Klosterman struck again a minute and a half later to give Mount Union a 9-8 lead. The Yellow Jackets tied the game for the fourth time with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.

With 1:41 remaining in the three minute overtime period, Rohrman fired a shot past Baldwin Wallace goalie Amanda Getto to pull off a 10-9 win.

With the win, Mount Union officially clinches a spot in the OAC tournament.

Mount Union will honor its seniors in the team's final home game of the regular season, which will take place Saturday, April 29 at 1 p.m. against conference opponent Heidelberg at Mount Union Stadium.
