Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Mount Union's women's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit then held on late for a 9-7 win over Rhodes (Tenn.) Friday at the University of Louisivlle.
Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) and Kenzie Pensyl (Kent / Roosevelt) each scored three goals, Ashley Bernardi (Medina) talled two and Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) scored a goal to account for the scoring in the season opener for the Purple Raiders.
Mimi Curtis (Lititz, Pa. / Manheim Twp.) had 12 saves in goal for Mount Union.
Baylee Barker and Aubrey Gray each had two goals to lead Rhodes (0-1).
Rhodes led 3-1 in the game's opening 10 minutes before Mount Union scored four unanswered goals -- two from Rohrman and two from Pensyl -- to take a 5-3 lead at the half.
Rhodes made it 5-4 with a goal eight minutes into the second half but again the Raiders surged this time with three goals over a span of the next six minutes to push the lead to 8-4.
There was one more rally by Rhodes as it scored three goals in just under two and half minutes to again close to within a goal, 8-7.
Bernardi finished the scoring with six minutes left.
The Raiders play one more game in Kentucky with a matchup Saturday against Illinois Wesleyan.
