Men's Volleyball: Mount Union Pushes Altoona to Four Sets

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Mount Union's men's volleyball team fell to Penn State-Altoona (7-4), 3-1, Thursday night at the Adler Auxiliary Gym.

The Purple Raiders (5-13) was led by sophomore outside hitter Justin Sibbel (Stow/Stown-Munroe Falls) who recorded 15 kills in the match. Freshman setter Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls/Archbishop Hoban) tallied 39 assists to set up the offense. 

At libero, freshman Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) dug up 17 balls to lead the defense. Five different Raiders had blocks against the Lions as freshman outside hitter Kaleb Krebs (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) was ahead of the group with two.

Altoona won the first set 25-13 and then held off a Mount Union comeback in the second set to win 25-20.

Mount Union went on to win a competitive third set, 25-22, to push Altoona to a fourth set but the Lions came away with the win at 25-19.

The Raiders stay on the road and next play at Geneva (Pa.) March 7 at 7 p.m.
