Men's Volleyball: Mount Union Wins Season Opener in Four Sets

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Mount Union men's volleyball team opened their season with a 3-1 win over Concordia Wisconsin Friday evening at Trine University. 

The Purple Raiders (1-0) were led by junior Justin Sibbel (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) with 13 kills. Also contributing to the Mount Union offense was sophomore Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Akron Hoban) with a game-high 42 assists.

Defending Mount Union territory was Leyden with another game-high 12 digs. 

James Althoff paced the Falcons with 18 kills and seven digs.

The Raiders won the first set quickly 25-14, but the Falcons rallied in the second set coming back from a 4-1 deficit winning 25-19. Mount Union started the third set with a 5-2 lead and never looked back, winning 25-23. With six lead changes and five ties, the Raiders won the final set 25-23 giving them their first win of the season.

The Raiders continue play tomorrow Saturday, Jan. 25 against Thiel (Pa.) at 11 a.m.
