Box Score 2 BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Mount Union's men's volleyball rallied from their first loss on the season to salvage a split in a pair of matches Wednesday at Geneva College.
The Purple Raiders lost in three sets to Geneva (Pa.) 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 then swept St. Vincent (Pa.) 26-24, 25-13, 26-24 to stand at 7-1 on the season.
Against St. Vincent (0-8), Mount Union had a season-best .324 hitting percentage as Sam Matonis (Macedonia / Walsh Jesuit) had nine kills and Andrew Cross (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Louis University High) had eight kills. Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Akron Hoban) provided 28 assists and a pair of service aces while Jimmy Entz (Coraopolis, Pa. / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) had a pair of blocks.
The Raiders had a season-low .138 hitting percentage against Geneva (10-6). Cross and Matonis had eight and seven kills respectively while Leydon had 28 assists. Defensively, Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich) had 18 digs.
Mount Union next plays at Wittenberg, Tuesday. Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. in Springfield, Ohio.
