Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's basketball team got a career-high 24 points and 14 rebounds from junior forward Braedon Poole (McDonald) as the Purple Raiders beat Baldwin Wallace 89-80 in an Ohio Athletic Conference win Saturday night at the McPherson Academic Athletic Complex.
The rest of the Raiders starting five also scored in double digits as junior Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Jackson) and sophomore Chris Painter Jr. (Akron / St. Vincent St. Mary's) each had 15 while Junior Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) had 11 points and senior Logan Hill (Massillon / Jackson) had 10 points as Mount Union moved to 2-0 and won its 21st straight game dating back to last season.
Baldwin Wallace (0-2, 0-2 OAC) was led by Anthony Mazzeo with 21 points.
The Raiders missed 11 of their first 12 shots to find themselves down 10-5 in the game's opening seven minutes but responded with a 16-4 run sparked by five points each from freshman Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) and Stanislawski to give the Raiders a 25-17 lead. BW then rallied as it out-scored Mount Union 18-9 the rest of the period to lead 35-34 at the break.
Mount Union opened the second half on a 15-5 run and layup from Hill gave the Raiders a 49-40 lead with 15:11 to play. The Raiders would push that lead to as many as 14 points, 73-59, after a Poole layup with just under six minutes remaining. The Jackets rallied but got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Mount Union takes on John Carroll next weekend, hosting the Blue Streaks, Friday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at the MAAC then playing a Saturday game at 7 p.m. in University Heights.
