Box Score 2 OLIVET, Mich. – The Mount Union men's volleyball team swept the Olivet College Comets with a pair of 3-0 victories in a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League doubleheader Sunday at the Cutler Event Center.
The Purple Raiders even their MCVL record at 2-2 and are 4-2 overall while Olivet remains winless on the year at 0-6 and 0-6 in the MCVL.
First Match
Sophomore Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) led the Raiders in the first match collecting 10 kills, followed by senior Justin Sibbel (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) and junior Sam Matonis (Macedonia / Walsh Jesuit) who each logged nine apiece. Junior Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Akron Hoban) also collected an impressive 31 assists. The Raiders had control in the first two sets as they only trailed the Comets once in each set. Olivet found their momentum in the third set leading by as much as five at 13-8, however, the Raider offense was unmatched as they rallied back quick to complete the sweep off a kill by Sibbel. The final scores in each set were 25-21, 25-17, and 25-20.
Second Match
Ternant led the way again in the second match securing 13 kills and five service aces as well as Leyden who registered assists. The break was no match for the Raiders as they continued to dominate the latter half of the afternoon. Back to back aces by Peyton Hines (Gurnee, Ill. / Warren Township) in the third set helped to secure the sweep as the Raiders took down the Comets with scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-20.
The Raiders next match will be their first home match of the 2021 season as they take on Mt. Vernon Nazarene in a non-conference matchup Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in the MAAC.
