AUSTINTOWN -- Mount Union had eight wrestlers named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team selected by the conference's 10 head coaches.
The eight Purple Raiders include seniors Michael Carpenter (Middleburg Hts. / Lakewood St. Edward), Luke Hernandez (Nashport / Tri-Valley), Jordin James (Bedford) and David Massey (Cuyahoga Falls / Woodridge), juniors Landon Talbert (Salem / Crestview) and Errik Gerback (Alliance / Marlington), sophomore David Reinhardt (Canfield) and freshman Brent Paulus (Louisville).
Carpenter posted a 1-1 record at 157 pounds this season in his first year as a starter after transferring from Baldwin Wallace.
Hernandez was 1-0 with a technical fall and nationally ranked this season at 149 pounds. His career record stands at 82-28 and was an All-American in 2019.
James was 2-0, had a technical fall and was nationally ranked this season at 141 pounds. James is now a three-time All-OAC selection, was the 2020 OAC Wrestler of the Year, won a national title at 133 pounds in 2019, was also an All-American in 2019 and 2020 and has a 66-3 mark in three years at Mount Union.
Massey had a pair of wins and was nationally ranked at 133 pounds this season. He was a national qualifier in 2020, a two-time All-OAC and NWCA Scholar All-American selection with a career record of 72-17.
Talbert went 4-0 at 285 pounds with a major decision and two falls this season and now has a 39-25 career record.
Gerback posted a 1-1 mark with a pin at 125 pounds this season and has a 19-9 career record.
Reinhart was 2-1 with a pin at 174 pounds and now has a 14-10 career record.
Paulus is the second Mount Union freshman since 2015 to be named to the All-OAC team and he posted a 3-1 record with a pair of major decisions at 197 pounds.
Mount Union went 2-1 in an abbreviated 2021 season that also saw the NCAA cancel regional and national wrestling tournaments.
