Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Mount Union's men's volleyball team dropped a pair of Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League matches at Fontbonne Saturday in Mabee Gymnasium.
The Purple Raiders are 2-2 overall and 0-2 overall while Fontbonne, the MCVL preseason favorite, are 5-0 and 4-0 in the conference.
The Griffins scored a 27-25, 25-20 and 25-19 sweep in the first match as Ryan Lively had 21 kills, 40 assists from Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell and Zach Rothstein had 14 digs. Mount Union got 13 kills from Justin Sibbel (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls), 32 assists from Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Akron Hoban) and 11 digs from Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich).
Fontbonne fought off the Raiders in the second match winning 3-1 with scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-20 and 26-24.
Lively had 23 kills, van Rossum-O'Connell had 44 assists and Rothstein had 10 digs to lead the Griffins.
Sibbel had 15 kills, Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) had 14 kills, Leyden had 40 assists and Grenier had 11 digs to pace the Raiders.
Mount Union stays on the road for a pair of MCVL matches next Sunday, Feb. 14 at Olivet in Olivet, Michigan.
