ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union softball team (5-1, 2-0 OAC) swept Marietta (0-2, 0-2 OAC) Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader matchup at 23rd Street Field with a first game score of 10-2 followed by a game two win of 10-2.
Game One
The Purple Raiders were led by senior trio Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) who logged a three-run home run, Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) with a solo shot over the left-field fence, and Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) who had three hits and one RBI.
The bats got some action early as Pidgeon singled to left field to bring in Hellman to tie up the game 1-1, Dominick followed that up with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to bring the Raiders up 4-1. Pidgeon collected a home run of her own to left as she led off the fourth inning to extend the Raider lead to 7-2. In the same inning singles by senior Montana Martin (Massillon / Tuslaw), Hellman, and sophomore Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch) each brought in a run to go up 10-2 and finish the game after five innings.
Junior Cheyanne Bosse (Montville / Berkshire) recorded her second win and complete game of the season as she pitched five innings collecting three strikeouts in 83 total pitches. Bosse improves to 2-0 on the season.
Game Two
The Raiders were led by senior Allie Goldy (Painesville / Riverside) who had three hits on the game and registered two RBIs, two doubles, and a triple. Heath and Dominick also had three hits bringing in a combined three RBIs.
A single by Dominick tied the Raiders up 1-1 followed by a double down the infield line by Goldy to put the Raiders up 3-1 to end the first. The Raiders put up two more runs one coming in the second followed by another in the fourth to go up 5-1. A solo home run by Heath past center field nearly followed by a solo home run to left for Dominick had the Raiders go up 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth. A double by junior Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) put the Raiders up 10-2 to end the game bringing in Goldy.
On the mound was junior Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) who struck out her first two batters and recorded five more to end the day with seven strikeouts on 103 pitches. Morrison improves to 3-0 on the season.
The Raiders continue their home and home doubleheader series with Marietta as they travel to Marietta tomorrow afternoon with games slated to start at 1 and 3 pm.
