Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's lacrosse team defeated Marietta 16-5 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon in Marietta.
A balanced Mount Union attack was led by Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.) with three goals and an assist and Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) with three goals, while Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) and Katie Clark (Cuyahoga Falls / Walsh Jesuit) scored two goals and had two assists as the Purple Raiders moved to 5-1 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.
The Raiders also got two goals each from Mackenzie Lewis (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and Kaitlyn Murphy (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County), Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) had two goals and Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) had eight saves in goals.
Hope Adams and Natalie Cocco had two goals each for Marietta (2-4, 2-4 OAC).
Mount Union jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the game's opening six minutes with goals from Kesler, Karr, Bumbarger and Murphy with assists coming from Bates and Clark on the last two goals.
Marietta scored two goals with Mount Union getting a goal in between them from Bates assisted by Bumbarger to make it 5-3.
Mount Union scored the next six goals with Lewis scoring two and Karr, Kesler, Murphy, and Bates adding one each while Marietta got one more goal and Mount Union led 11-4 at halftime.
The Raiders got two goals within nine seconds of each other on a Clark goal assisted by Lewis and a man-up opportunity goal by Bumbarger that pushed it to 13-4. Clark, Kesler and Bates each scored goals for Mount Union and Marietta got one more for the 16-5 final.
Mount Union stays on the road as to play Otterbein in an OAC game Saturday, March 20 at 1 p.m. in Westerville.
