Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio-- Mount Union's women's lacrosse team defeated Otterbein 21-15 Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Mount Union (6-1, 6-1 OAC) was led by sophomore Sam Karr (Newark Charter, Del. / Newark Charter) scoring a career-high 7 goals just one short of tying the school record.
Senior Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) had five goals and one assist for the Purple Raiders.
Freshman Katie Clark (Cuyahoga Falls / Walsh Jesuit) had three goals and assists, sophomore Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) had two goals and four assists, freshman Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) had two goals and one assists while junior Mackenzie Lewis (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) scored two goals for Mount Union.
Otterbein (5-3, 5-3 OAC) got six goals from Emily Williams.
Mount Union scored first with a goal from Kesler 1:45 into the contest. Baldwin Wallace scored the next seven goals to take a 7-1 lead.
The Purple Raiders responded with a 5- 1 scoring run of their own. Clark score first with an assist from senior Kaitlyn Murphy (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County), Karr then scored with an assist from Clark, Lewis scored an unassisted goal while Otterbein grabbed a goal two minutes after Lewis. Mount Union got two more goals in that 5-1 run from Kesler unassisted and Karr from an assist by Bumbarger.
Bumbarger started another Purple Raider 6-1 run this time she scored twice in the run, Bates scored also had two goals with an assist, Clark had a goal and an assist and Murphy assisted to Karr for a Mount Union goal and 12-11 lead at the half.
In the second half Karr scored four goals and Bumbarger scored three goals to give Mount Union a 19-15 lead. Bates assisted on two of those goals with Murphy, Clark, and Kesler all having one assist.
Lewis and Clark scored one goal a piece to lengthen the Purple Raider lead out to 21-15. Otterbein got one more goal before the end of the game to make it 21-16
Senior goalkeeper Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) had 10 saves on the day and only allowed five goals in the second half for Mount Union.
Mount Union is back in action next Saturday, Mar. 27 at 1 p.m. playing against Capital in Bexley, Ohio.
