Box Score 2 WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The No. 21 Mount Union softball team (12-2, 9-1 OAC) split a pair against Otterbein (8-6, 5-5 OAC) Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with game scores of 3-1 and 12-3.
Game One
The Purple Raiders couldn't get the bats going in the first game as they dropped to the Cardinals 3-1. Senior Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) brought in sophomore Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch) to tie up the game 1-1 in the top of the third inning. Both teams kept strong defense through the next three innings, but Otterbein found the right pitch as they hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to capture the win 3-1.
Pitching for the Raiders was junior Cheyanne Bosse (Montville / Berkshire) who drops to 4-1 on the season after 6.2 innings of work.
Game Two
The Raiders were led by Heath who went 3-4 has she tallied up one triple and four RBIs. Senior dup Pidgeon and Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarwaras Central Catholic) each had key doubles and two RBIs on the game.
Mount Union took advantage of the break back having a nine-run first inning off four hits. Otterbein answered back with two runs to complete the inning. Mount Union had a strong offense in the third inning to add two more runs off a double Dominick. The Raiders tallied up their 12th run by Peyton Guspyt ( ) as they secured the win after five innings with a score of 12-3.
Pitching a complete game for the Raiders was junior Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) who struck out three batters on 20 faced and allowed only four hits on the game. Morrison remains clean as she improves to 6-0 on the season.
The Purple Raiders continue their doubleheader series with Otterbein as they host them at 23rd St. Field tomorrow afternoon with games starting at 1 and 3 pm.
