Box Score ADA, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's lacrosse team remained undefeated on the season with a 17-9 win at Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
A balanced Mount Union attack was led by Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.) with four goals and an assist while Mackenzie Lewis (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and Kaitlyn Murphy (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County) each had three goals and an assist as the Purple Raiders ran their record to 4-0 overall and 4-0 in the OAC.
Mount Union also got three goals from Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.), two from Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter), a goal from Ashley Carr (Livonia, N.Y.) and a goal and an assist from Katie Clark (Cuyahoga Falls / Walsh Jesuit).
Kaitlin Thomson had three goals and an assist for Ohio Northern (2-3, 2-3 OAC).
Mount Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game's opening eight minutes but Ohio Northern scored a pair of goals in under a minute to cut the lead to 3-2. Clark assisted on a Lewis score then scored one of her to put the Raiders up 5-2 and Northern scored again at the 12:43 mark to leave the Mount Union lead at 5-3. The Raiders then turned on the offense finishing the half on a 7-0 run as Bates scored three times and Mount Union led 12-3 at the break.
Both teams scored in the first four minutes of the second half before the Raiders scored three-straight goals -- two by Karr -- to end any hopes of a comeback leading 16-4 with 17 minutes to play. Ohio Northern scored five of the final six goals for the 17-9 final.
Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) had 11 saves to move to 4-0 in goal on the season.
Mount Union next hosts John Carroll in an OAC game Wednesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
