Box Score 2 NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The No. 21 Mount Union softball team (17-5. 14-4 OAC) dropped a pair to the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum (15-7, 14-4 OAC) in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader as they dropped in game one 4-1 and 4-3.
Game One
Leading for the Purple Raiders was senior catcher Alexis French (Rocky River / Magnificat) who brought in the Raider's lone run on the game off a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring in junior Alyssa Rose (Madison / Madison). Senior Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) and junior Hanna Ingram (Stow / Stow) each tallied up two hits on the game.
Both teams remained tight through the first three innings, leaving runners on bases. Mount Union finally captured the first run of the game as French hit a sacrifice fly out to centerfield to bring in Rose and make the score 1-0 after the top of the fourth. The Muskies answered back with a four-run fifth inning to take the later 4-1 lead. The Raiders couldn't get the bats going and ended up dropping game one with a score of 4-1.
Pitching for the Raiders was junior Cheyanne Bosse (Montville / Berkshire) who tallied up two strikeouts after six complete innings of work.
Game Two
Senior Allie Goldy led the way for the Raiders as she tallied up two hits and two RBIs on the game.
Bases loaded to give the Raiders momentum in the first inning as Goldy would drive in two runs with a line drive over the pitcher. The Fighting Muskies were able to answer right back as they brought in two runs of their own in the first inning to knot it back up at 2-2. The Muskies again added another run in the third, but a strikeout from Morrison ended a potential rally from Muskingum. Muskingum recorded another run in the fourth, but the Raiders were able to answer back with another run as they trailed 4-3 through the middle of the fifth inning. The Raiders were unable to find a rally and ended up dropping the game through seven innings at 4-3.
In the circle for game two was junior Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) who registered four strikeouts on 28 batters faced in six complete innings.
The Purple Raiders will continue their series with Muskingum as they travel back home for a doubleheader tomorrow with games starting at 1 and 3 pm.
