ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 21 Mount Union softball team (18-5, 15-4 OAC) swept Muskingum (15-8, 14-5 OAC) in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at 23^rd St. Field Sunday afternoon with a game one score of 5-3 and a game two score of 14-4.  

Game One 

The Purple Raiders were led by senior Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) who went 2-3 and brought in two RBIs and had two runs of her own. 

The Raiders got the bats going early as a double by Pidgeon resulted in two runs scoring, and on a wild pitch Pidgeon dove into third and followed it up to find home on another wild pitch to put the Raiders up 3-0 after the first inning. The Muskies were able to answer back with three runs in the top of the second to knot it back up at 3-3. A single by Pidgeon who advanced to second on a wild throw and to third on a wild pitch, drove home off a sacrifice fly to left field from senior Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) to put the Raiders back up 4-3 after the third inning. Again in the fifth inning, Pidgeon came around home off a double from senior Allie Goldy (Painesville / Painesville) to extend the Raider lead to 5-3. The Muskies loaded the bases on the top of the seventh, but a clutch two-out double play by Guspyt and Pidgeon got the Raiders out of the jam. Rose would go on to strike out the last batter to give the Raiders the 5-3 win.  

Pitching for the Raiders was junior Alyssa Rose (Madison / Madison) who pitched a complete 7 innings and improves to 6-1 on the season as she came up with six strikeouts on 32 batters faced. 

Game Two 

Leading the Purple Raiders was senior Savannah Miner (Louisville / Louisville) who went 3-4 and had four RBIs and a two-run home run in the fourth. 

Senior Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) got things going with a single and stole second, Dominick stepped up to send her home on a double to centerfield tie knot it up 1-1. A solo home run by the Muskies gave them back the 2-1 lead in the second inning, but a double from Savannah Miner drove in two runs to put the Raiders back up 3-2. Hellman followed it up with a double of her own to drive in Miner and extend the Raider lead to 4-2. The bats kept going as Pidgeon drove in two runs as well as Rose and Guspyt to put the Raiders up 9-2. The Raiders added three more in the third inning to extend their lead to 12-2. The Muskies came fighting back in the fourth to post up two runs. Mount Union came charging back as a two-run homer over the left-field fence by Miner extended the Raider lead back to ten at 14-4. The Muskies couldn't fight back as Morrison threw out the last batter to end the game 14-4 through five innings.

In the circle for the Raiders was sophomore Megan Zody (Westerville / Westerville Central) with her first collegiate start coming up with one strikeout. Junior Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) came in the fourth inning to clean up the game as she threw 1.1 innings with two strikeouts, her second which gave the Raiders the 14-4 win. 

The Purple Raiders will be back in action next week as they are set to host John Carroll for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader with games beginning at 1 and 3 pm.
