Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Balanced Attack Gets Seventh Straight Win

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to seven games with a 16-7 victory over Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.

Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) had four goals, Katie Clark (Cuyahoga Falls / Walsh Jesuit) netted three goals with four assists and Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.) scored three goals as a total of seven Purple Raiders tallied a score to move their record to 11-1 overall and in the OAC.

The other scorers were Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) and Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) each getting two goals while Mackenzie Lewis (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and Ashley Carr Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) each had a goal/

Rachel Sivie had three goals for Marietta (6-8, 6-8OAC).

Mount Union jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game's opening 13 minutes with two goals from Kesler and a goal each to Karr, Bumbarger and Bates with assists coming from Clark and Carr.

Marietta scored two goals to make it 5-2

Mount Union outscored Marietta 6-1 in the final 10 minutes of the first half to take a 11-3 lead in to the half. Scoring two goals were Bumbarger and Bates while Clark and Lewis each had one. Clark had three assists during this period.

Marietta scored first out of the half but four straight goals for Mount Union pushed thelead out to 15-4. Clark scoring two goals in that run while Karr and Bumbarger had one.

Marietta outscored Mount Union 3-1 in the final 10 minutes with Carr scoring the lone goal for Mount Union ending the game at 16-7.

Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) had five saves in goals for the Raiders.

Mount Union next plays at John Carroll in an OAC game Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. in University Heights. The Blue Streaks handed Mount Union its only loss in a 19-13 decision back on March 10.
