Box Score 2 UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The No. 22 Mount Union softball team (22-5, 19-4 OAC) swept the Blue Streaks of John Carroll (4-20, 4-19 OAC) in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bracken Field with a game one score of 11-2 and a game two score of 10-1.
Game One
Leading that Raiders was senior duo Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) and Savannah Miner (Louisville / Louisville) as Hellman went 3-4 on the game with two runs and one RBI, and Miner going 2-2 with one run and four RBIs. Junior Hanna Ingram (Stow / Stow) and senior Allie Goldy (Painesville / Riverside) also tallied up two runs each in the game for the Raiders.
Mount Union got on the board early as a single from senior Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) to centerfield drove in Hellman in the first inning. Miner brought in two runs off a single to left field to extend the Raider lead to 3-0 through the top half of the second inning. The Raiders had a doubles party in the third inning as senior Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic), Goldy, and Miner each drove in a run to go up 7-0. The Raiders would finish off the inning with another run to go up 8-0 through the top half of the third inning. Mount Union would finish off their scoring spree off a three-run fifth inning. The Blue Streaks tried to rally back putting up two runs in the fifth inning, but that wasn't enough as the Raiders pulled off the 11-2 win after five innings.
In the circle for the Raiders was junior Cheyanne Bosse ( Montville / Berkshire) who pitched four complete innings facing 17 batters and collecting two strikeouts. Bosse improves to 5-3 on the season. Junior Alyssa Cascio (Elyria / Elyria Catholic) came in to put away the game in the fifth inning
Game Two
Leading the way for the Raiders was Hellman who went 4-4 on the game with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Dominick and Goldy also took charge tallying up three RBIs apiece. Homeruns for the Purple Raiders came from Dominick and junior Alyssa Rose (Madison / Madison).
The Raiders got to work early as they posted up three runs in the first inning sparked by a ground out from Dominick to send Hellman home. A double from Dominick in the third inning as well as a single from Goldy had the Raiders up 5-0 in the third inning. Another run would drive end to extend the Raider lead to 6-0 after two and a half innings of play. John Carroll would try to rally back scoring their lone run in the fifth inning, but Mount Union would continue to dominate the rest of the game, putting up four more runs to secure the 10-1 victory and complete the sweep over the Blue Streaks
Pitching for the Raiders was Rose who went a complete seven innings improving her overall record to (8-1). Rose struck out five batters on 31 batters faced.
The Purple Raiders be back in action next weekend for their doubleheader home and home series with Capital which will begin Saturday, April 24 at 23rd St. Field with games beginning at 1 and 3 pm.
