Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio-- Mount Union's women's lacrosse team defeated Otterbein 17-14 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game and regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders four seniors Kaitlyn Murphy (Lexington Va. / Rockbridge County), Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.), Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) and Brenna Duke (Hollywood, Md. / Leonardtown) and junior Kaylin Kostic (Latrobe, Pa.) were honored before the start of the game. Kostic is studying abroad next Spring so this was her final regular season home game as well.
Murphy had five goals and two assists and freshman Katie Clark (Cuyahoga Falls / Walsh Jesuit) had five goals as Mount Union finished with a 12-1 overall record and 12-1 in the OAC.
The Raiders also got three goals and two assists Bumbarger, two goals and three assists from sophomore Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme), freshman Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) had one goal and two assists and junior Mackenzie Lewis (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) scored a goal.
Otterbein (8-5, 8-5 OAC) was led by Emily Williams with four goals.
Both teams scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game with Clark scoring both the Mount Union goals. A goal by Murphy gave the Raiders a 3-2 lead and a goal by Otterbein tied the game seven minutes into the contest.
A 5-0 run fueled by two goals by Murphy, and a goals from Bates, Lewis, and Bumbarger gave Mount Union an 8-3 lead and a 4-2 run by Otterbein to end the half gave Mount Union a 10-7 at the break.
Clark scored the first goal of the second half to lead 11-7. Otterbein went on another 4-1 run with Murphy scoring the long goal for the Raiders. Two more goals by Clark pushed the Mount Union lead out to 14-11 with 13:19 remaining in the game.
Otterbein scored three goals within 47 seconds to tie the game at 14 with 11:12 remaining.
Mount Union finished the game out on a 3-0 run with goals by Kesler, Bates, and Murphy.
Senior goalkeeper Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) made one of her 11 saves in the final minute of the game for Mount Union.
Mount Union will host a semifinal game in next week's OAC Tournament Thursday, April 29.
