Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio—Mount Union Women's Lacrosse team fell to John Carroll 20-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Saturday Afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.
Senior Molly McGinnis (Brunswick) broke the school record with saves in a game with 20. The previous high was held by Mimi Curtis with 18 saves.
The Purple Raiders (13-2) were lead on offense by senior Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calf. / Newbury Park) with five goals.
Junior Mackenzie Lewis (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and freshman Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) scored two goals while sophomore Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) sophomore Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) each scored a goal.
John Carroll (16-1) was led by Colleen Grombala with six goals.
John Carroll began the game on a 5-0 run until a Bumbarger goal at the 22:24 mark in the first half.
Bumbarger scored another goal but not before two John Carroll goals.
The Raiders got another goal from Bumbarger at the 12:10 mark to bring the score within 10-3.
A couple big saves from McGinnis and a goal from Lewis at the 5:51 mark with another Bumbarger goal closed the first half down 12-5.
John Carroll got the first goal of the second half and then a Bates goal on a pass from sophomore Sam Karr (Newark , Del. / Newark Charter).
John Carroll lengthened the lead out to 15-6.
Mount Union went on a 4-1 run to get within six with a goal from Bumbarger, Lewis, Clark and Kesler with 16:30 left in the game.
John Carroll finished the game on a 4-0 run.
Mount Union now awaits the NCAA Selection show on Monday, May 3 at 10:30 to see if they get one of the three at large bids into the NCAA Tournament.
