Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 19 Mount Union softball team (30-6, 27-5 OAC) completed the sweep over the Fightin' Quakers of Wilmington College (16-20, 15-17 OAC) on Senior Day with a game one score of 3-1 and a game two score of 11-3.
The seven graduating seniors that were recognized before today's doubleheader consist of Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson), Savannah Miner (Louisville / Louisville), Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch), Alexis French (Rocky River / Magnificat), Montana Martin (Massillon / Tuslaw), Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic), and Allie Goldy (Painesville / Riverside).
Game One
The Purple Raiders were led by Hellman who went 2-3 with two runs, one of which being a double that resulted in a run, off a throwing error by the Quakers.
The Quakers got on the board first driving in their lone run of the game in the first inning. The Raiders got to work quickly as Dominick drove in Hellman and sophomore Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch) in the bottom of the first. Hellman doubled and rounded home on a throwing error by the centerfielder to wrap up scoring on the game in the third inning. Both teams battled through the second half of the game, but Mount Union came out on top with a score of 3-1.
Pitching for the Raiders was junior Cheyanne Bosse (Montville / Berkshire) who completed 6.1 innings of work striking out two batters on 27 batters faced. Junior Alyssa Rose (Madison / Madison) came in in the seventh inning to make the save with only nine pitches.
Game Two
Leading the way for the Raiders was Goldy and Dominick as they both went 3-3 on the game and combining for five RBIs. Sophomore Taylor Gerback (Louisville / Marlington) came into the game in the fifth inning and smashed her first collegiate home run to end the game 11-3 after five innings.
Dominick got things started for the Raiders in the first inning sending Hellman and Heath home to go up 2-1. A ground out by Heath in the second inning sent home Miner to go up 3-1. Dominick smashed a home run in the third to extend the Raider lead to four. The Raiders sparked a six-run fourth inning to go up 10-1 as the seniors made their way off the field for the last time after two outs in the top of the fifth. The Quakers came fighting back after the switch scoring two more runs, but the Raiders were able to get out of the jam. Stepping up to the plate in the bottom of the fifth was Gerback who hit her first collegiate home run on an 0-2 count.
In the circle for the Raiders was junior Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) who improves to 14-1 on the season after going four complete innings with three strikeouts and only allowing one hit. Junior Ashley Cascio (Elyria / Elyria Catholic) came in to complete the game facing six batters on the day.
Mount Union will wrap up their 2021 regular season with a home and home series with Baldwin Wallace beginning in Berea on Saturday, May 8 at 1 pm and 3 pm.
