Raiders Sit First After Day 1 of OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's track and field team picked up three victories and had multiple All-conference finishes after day one of the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Friday night.
 
Mount Union grabbed 92 points in the seven events contested on day one which leaves them 36 points ahead of second place John Carroll (56).
 
The Purple Raiders picked up four of the top five spot in the long jump with junior Brody Coleman (Knox, Pa. / Keystone) winning the event with a leap of 22-feet 7-inches and senior Evan Hershberger (Dalton) picked up All-OAC honors with a second-place jump of 22-feet 6.25-inches.
 
 Junior Matthew McBride (Conneaut) won the 500-meters with a time of 1:04.54.
 
Junior Jared Storm (Barberton) raced to a 49.27 in the 400-meters taking the victory by .13 seconds.
 
The Distance Medley Relay quartet of senior Hunter Probert (Gnadenhutten / Indian Valley), sophomores Mason Kutz (Dalton), Vincent Giumenti (Dover) and freshman Aiden Schaffer (Heath) picked up All-OAC honors with a second-place finish.  
 
There were two prelims today in the 60-meter hurdles where Mount Union had four qualifiers to tomorrow led by senior Carson Troyer (Sugarcreek / Garaway).
 
The other prelim was the 60-meter dash where Storm leads a group of five into the finals tomorrow.
 
The final day of the meet begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
