Gainesville, Fla. - Mount Union Head Women's Lacrosse Coach
Emily Fisher was recently invited to speak to 150 NBA and College Basketball coaches and professionals at the 2022 Larry Shyatt Coaching Clinic hosted by Florida Basketball. Shyatt last served as an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks and was an assistant coach at Florida under Coach Billy Donovan that won back to back National Titles in 2006 and 2007.
Fisher's topic of discussion was The Joe Baab Culinary Fights Cancer Foundation - a non-profit organization that provides free-of-charge cooking classes for cancer patients and family members through partnerships with local restaurants and chefs. Fisher and her late brother, Joe Baab - who passed away from colon cancer one year ago - founded the organization in August of 2021. Since Culinary Fights Cancer's founding, they have established partnerships with some of the best chefs and restaurants in Cleveland and are selling out quickly for events. Fisher is the Executive Director of the Foundation.
"I am so grateful to Coach Larry Shyatt for providing me the opportunity to speak in front of so many talented coaches and professionals on this important cause," Fisher states. "I have learned so many invaluable life lessons from sport. As a coach, one of the many lessons I have learned is that you must find a way to win regardless of the circumstances. My brother's story is a sad one, but this is a huge win for everybody. Joe was a selfless individual who lived his life by helping others and this was his way of continuing to help others beyond his time here on earth."
Joe was an avid sports fan with his favorite time of year being March during the Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. The Foundation's annual fundraiser is centered around this event with proceeds directly benefiting the Foundation and those impacted by cancer.
