Women’s Basketball: Raiders End Season in the OAC Quarterfinals

Box Score BEXLEY, Ohio—The No. 6-seed Mount Union women's basketball team fell 63-54 to No. 3-seed Capital in the Quarterfinals of the women's Ohio Athletic Conference basketball tournament Tuesday night.
 
The Purple Raiders (10-16, 7-11 OAC) were led by freshman Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) finishing with 14 points.
 
Sophomores Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Bucthel) scored 12 points while Makayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) finished with 10 rebounds.
 
Capital (19-7, 13-5 OAC) was led by Bri O'Connor and Samaree Perkins. O'Connor had 22 points while Perkins had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
 
FIRST QUARTER
A slow start for both teams saw a layup from Dunkle at the 8:36 mark. Capital responded with a 7-0 run over a 2:52 stretch taking a 7-2 lead. Mount Union finished the quarter on a 7-4 run as Muckleroy scored five points closing the Comets lead to 11-9.  
 
SECOND QUARTER
Capital began the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 15-9 lead but Mount Union got a three and a layup from Mason along with a layup from Nash to take the lead at 16-15. A 6-0 run from Capital gave them a 21-16 lead with 4:24 remaining in the quarter. Capital kept its lead as they led 25-21 with 1:34 but Mount Union stormed back as sophomore Addison Mucci (Canton / St. Thomas Aquinas) and Mason scored buckets. With no time left in the quarter junior Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) was fouled from three and connected on all the free throws to give Mount Union the 28-25 lead into the half break.
 
THIRD QUARTER
Mount Union extended the lead out to 31-27 in the first 1:30 of the quarter. Capital responded with an 11-0 run over the next 3:03 to take a 38-31 lead. Both teams battled for the final five minutes but Capital extended its lead to 46-36 at the quarter break.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Capital got its largest lead of the 12 with an early bucket in the quarter. An 8-0 run which included six points from Nash got the Raiders to within four at 48-44 with 6:13 remaining in the game. Capital pushed the lead back out to 10 with 3:17 remaining. Mount Union had one push left as Hudik connected on a three and Mason got a driving layup to go getting within five with 2:11 left in the game. The Raiders could not capitalize on the Capital mistakes as Capital iced the game away on free throws.
 
Mount Union will end its season with an overall record of 10-16 and an OAC record of 7-11.
