ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union has announced the hiring of Emily Taylor as the new head women's basketball coach.
"I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the women's basketball program at the University of Mount Union," Taylor said. "Mount Union has a proud tradition of excellence, built by Coach Venet, players, alumni, and supporters who have shaped the legacy of this program over the years. I have tremendous respect for that foundation and look forward to building upon it while developing young women who excel both on and off the court. I'd like to thank Director of Athletics
Mike Parnell, President Greg King, and Vice President Pat Huddleston for their trust and support. I am excited to be part of the Mount Union family."
Taylor has extensive coaching experience across the NCAA Division I and Division III levels. She has contributed to postseason success, including an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance and consistent national rankings throughout her career.
"We are excited to welcome Emily to Mount Union," said Parnell. "Her experience and success with NCAA Division I and III programs and her knowledge of the Ohio Athletic Conference make her an outstanding fit to lead our program. Emily understands what it takes to build a championship culture on the court while prioritizing the academic and personal development of her student-athletes off it."
Most recently, Taylor served at John Carroll as an assistant, helping the Blue Streaks to their first-ever NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.
Additionally, Taylor brings valuable Division I experience from her time as an assistant at Cleveland State and Merrimack. At Merrimack, she served as lead assistant, managing national and international recruiting and scouting efforts.
Throughout her coaching career, Taylor has helped successfully recruit and develop numerous all-conference players, four All-Americans, and multiple specialty award winners—including OAC Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year.
As a player, Taylor was a standout student-athlete at John Carroll. As a two-year starter and team captain, she helped lead the program to its first OAC Regular Season Championship, its first NCAA Tournament appearance and win, and a 22-5 record during the 2013-14 campaign. She earned All-OAC honors in 2015 and currently ranks in the top 15 in JCU history for both assists and 3-point field goals made.
