No. 2 nationally ranked Mount Union will look to win its 36th overall and ninth-straight Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship with a win at Marietta on Saturday, locking up the conference's NCAA automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Championship Playoffs. With two weeks to go in the regular season, the Purple Raiders are undefeated in the OAC at 6-0, followed by Baldwin Wallace (5-1) and Ohio Northern (5-1)—both conference losses are against Mount Union, earning the tiebreaker if it came down to that. The Purple Raiders won last year's OAC Championship after a dramatic win against Marietta as Mount Union trailed 21-14 with less than seven minutes remaining before scoring 14 unanswered points, including a one-for-the-history-books 27-yard touchdown pass with 32 seconds left from graduate quarterback TJ Deshields to senior Tyrell Sanders, who caught the ball at the highest point and got one foot down by the front right pylon for the eventual game-winning touchdown, winning 28-21 and claiming the OAC title outright. The Purple Raiders have won 45 straight games against the Pioneers, with their last loss vs. Marietta coming in 1977 (20-6 at Marietta). Mount is 54-8-1 all-time against the Pioneers. In the last 11 games, Mount Union has outscored Marietta, 535-62.
