Box Score CORTLAND, New York—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team fell to SUNY Cortland 16-11 Tuesday afternoon at Grady Field.
The Purple Raiders (2-3) were led by
Haylee Handrahan (Hilliard / Hilliard Darby) and
Ella Nejad (Rocky River) with three goals each.
Emma Kielbasa (Amherst, N.Y. / Sweet Home) and
Mae Pawlikowski (Orchard Park, N.Y.) each scored two goals while
Lizzie Dorley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) had a goal for Mount Union.
Kaitlyn Kuczinski (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) was in goal for Mount Union making seven saves.
Cortland (2-2) was led by Kaitlyn Tietjen with four goals while Trinity Parks was in goal making two saves.
Cortland got off to a hot start leading 4-1 early on as Handrahan scored the early goal for Mount Union. Over the final eight minutes of the first quarter Mount Union got a goal from Pawlikowski and Nejad but trailed 7-4 as Cortland grabbed three goals.
Kielbasa got the scoring going in the second quarter with a goal just 51 second into play but three straight goals for Cortland pushed the lead out to 10-4. Mount Union rallied back scoring three goals over the final 2:46 of the quarter as Handrahan, Dorley and Nejad each scored closing the lead to 10-7.
Cortland came out of the halftime break scoring two straight goals but a goal from Pawlikowski kept the game close. However, Cortland finished the third quarter on a 3-1 run as Handrahan got her third goal of the day for the Raiders, trialing 15-9 with a quarter to goal.
Mount Union outscored Cortland 2-1 in the final quarter as Nejad got her third of the day and Kielbasa scored her second but was not enough for a comeback.
Mount Union will next play on Saturday, March 21st at home taking on Hope College at 11 AM.
