The win give Mount Union a home game in the OAC Tournament
(Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.) for the first time since the 1999-2000
season as the Raiders, 16-8 overall and 11-7 in the OAC, will be
the No. 4 seed and host No. 5 seed Wilmington (18-7, 11-7 OAC).
Ohio Northern (9-16, 7-11 OAC) held a nine-point lead, 28-19,
when Erica Holcomb scored with 6:17 remaining in the first
half. Mount Union got it back to within three points, 31-28,
but trailed 34-28 at the half.
The Raiders opened the second half on a 9-2 burst and a Taylor
Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) layup gave them their first lead
since the game's opening minutes, 37-36 at the 16:37
mark.
Nine lead changes over the next nine minutes left the score 51-50
in favor of the Polar Bears with 6:47 left in the game. Mount
Union would then tally six of the next eight points and a Pohovey
layup with just under five minutes to play gave the Raiders a
six-point edge, 59-53.
Mount Union would hold Ohio Northern off as the Polar Bears rallied
to tie the game at 67 with 28 seconds left but freshman Amanda Rose
(Uniontown/Green) would hit three of four free throws late for the
victory.
Aside from Pohovey, Rose and sophomore Katie Crider
(Brunswick/Brunswick) each scored 10 points as the double figure
scorers for Mount Union.
Alisha Rinehart scored 18 points to lead Ohio Northern and become
the school's all-time leading scorer.
