The Purple Raiders (24-4) used a 21-5 start to the game and
never trailed in snapping the OAC's longest homecourt winning
streak at 26 games.
Mount Union led 42-34 at the half and withstood several Capital
runs throughout both halves. The Crusaders (20-8) never got
closer than five points (45-40) after falling behind 13-0 at the
outset.
Freshman point guard Rosa
LaMattina, who earned tournament MVP honors, finished with 19
points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Senior Tessa
Pohovey, who also earned all-tournament honors, and junior Lauren
Forquer each scored 11 points.
Capital's Kristen Richardson led all scorers with 27 points in
her final home game while the Crusaders' other All-American
candidate struggled from the field. Senior post Caitlin Elsass hit
just 3-of-12 field goals and scored nine points.
The Purple Raiders had 11 players score and wore down the
not-so-deep Crusaders.
Mount Union's only other OAC championship came in 1998.
