Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Mount Union got two superb starting pitching performances to sweep a non-conference baseball doubleheader with 9-2 and 7-1 wins over Wittenberg Saturday in Springfield, Ohio.
Beau Smith (Fredrick, Md./Fredrick) did the job on the hill in the opener as he moved to 2-1 on the season as he did not allow an earned run and scattered four hits over six innings for the win.
Britt Williams (Canton/Massillon Jackson) had three hits and drove in three runs and Craig Knott (Canton/GlenOak) had two doubles and drove in two runs as he went 3-for-4 from the plate to pace the offense.
In the nightcap, Matt Lambert (Massillon/Massillon Washington) surrendered a run in the first inning but that was it as he allowed just five hits over 6.1 innings to pick up his first win of the season.
Zach Carlino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) had two hits and was one of five different Purple Raiders to drive in a run.
The sweep sends Mount Union to 4-8 overall while Wittenberg falls to 7-6 overall.
The Raiders host Walsh in the home opener next Wednesday (Mar. 23) at 3:30 pm at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
