WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's track and field claimed the team title at the All-Ohio Championships Saturday at Otterbein University in Westerville.
The Purple Raiders were led by a pair of record setting performances from junior Sam Ludgood (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and the 4x200 meter relay team.
Ludgood won the triple jump with a meet record of mark of 48-11.5. He also finished second in the long jump (23-9).
The 4x200 meter relay team of senior Ryan Kohler (Minerva/Minerva), junior Alex Kovalik (Aurora/Aurora) and sophomores Chase Swisher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) and Tyler Mettille (Canfield/Canfield) won the event with a school record time of 1:30.44. That bested the old record by .31 seconds set in 2010 by the quartet of Cecil Shorts III, Scott Thomas, Quinten Jones and Charles Pratt.
Two other event victories came from junior Dustin Matak (Salem/Salem) in the 60 meter dash (6.97) and freshman Rory Juhn (Fairview Park/Fairview) won the high jump (6-6.75).
A pair of second place finishes came from sophomores Dan McGeary (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) in the 1 mile run (4:21.68) and Andrew Milhoan (East Sparta/Sandy Valley) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.35).
Mount Union tallied 111.5 total points which was 38.5 points clear of second place Ohio Wesleyan and more than doubled the third place tie of Baldwin Wallace and Otterbein (49).
The Raiders compete next Saturday at the Kent State Tune-Up.
