MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Mount Union sophomore Tyler Mettille (Canfield/Canfield) broke a 41-year old school record and put up the nation's best mark in the 400 meter hurdles Friday at the Allegheny (Pa.) Invitational.

Mettille finished second in the event with a time of 51.48 which bested the time of 51.84 that Aaron Ankeny ran in 1972.

Ryan Kohler (Minerva/Minerva) won the 200 meters (22.74).

Paul Mendy won the triple jump (48-1.25) with the sixth-best mark in the nation so far this season while teammate Sam Ludgood (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) was second at 47-7.75 which is ninth-best in the nation.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Mettille, Kohler, Bryan Whitlock (Rochester, N.Y./School of the Arts) and Chase Swisher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) finished second with a time of 41.90.

Swisher also posted a third place finish in the long jump (22-3).

Sean Donnelly (Willoughby/Willoughby South) finished third and posted a season-best mark in the shot put (52-10).

Chad Gentry (Louisville/Louisville) and Tyler Sparks (Norwalk/Norwalk) went 1-2 in the 400 meters with times of 48.90 and 49.72 respectively.

Levi Simmons (Hartville/Lake) placed third in the high jump (6-2).

Mount Union will next compete Monday at the Ron Altoff Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
