LaCROSSE, Wis. -- Mount Union sophomore Sean Donnelly (Willoughby/Willoughby South) set a school record and finished fifth in the hammer throw to claim All-American honors Friday at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Donnelly's mark of 195-10 bested his own school-record mark of 187-7 that he set earlier this year. It is the second All-American honor for Donnelly, who was an All-American in the shot put last year.
The top eight finishers in every event earn All-American honors. In nine of the last 12 years a Mount Union thrower has earned All-American honors.
On Saturday, two Raiders will compete in the same event as freshman Paul Mendy (Gaillon, France) and Sam Ludgood (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) participate in the triple jump at 12:35 pm. Mendy is seeded eighth (48-1.25) while Ludgood, who was 12th in the event at the national meet in 2011, is seeded 19th (47-7.75).
Sophomore Tyler Mettille (Canfield/Canfield) competes in the 400 meter hurdles finals at 5:55 pm while Mettille, sophomore Chase Swisher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) and freshmen Tyler Sparks (Norwalk/Norwalk) and Chad Gentry (Louisville/Louisville) run in the 4x400 meter relay at 7:30 pm.
