Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's lacrosse team defeated Kenyon 6-4 Saturday afternoon in Alliance at Mount Union Stadium.
Mount Union improves to 3-3 overall while Kenyon falls to 4-3 on the seaon.
Carl Sopczyk (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) started the scoring for Mount Union scoring back-to-back goals at the 9:36 and 5:03 marks of the first quarter. Kenyon's Phil Alimam found the back of the net in the second to make it 2-1, followed by Fritz Waine who tied the game at 2 with 5:22 left in the half.
The Lords Jack Fraser would be called for slashing, giving the Raiders an extra-man opportunity, as Chris Daley (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) capitalized on the man-up and the Raiders took the 3-2 lead. With 1:24 remaining in the half, Stephen Jones (Hudson/Hudson) and Michael Taylor (Broadview Heights/Brecksville) connected to send the Raiders into the locker room with a 4-2 lead.
After a scoreless third quarter, Kenyon tallied two goals from Caleb Florence to tie the game at 4. Mount Union won the draw but quickly turned it over. Kenyon's Florence's shot went wide, putting the Raiders in scoring position which Daley capitalized on finding the back of the net notching his second goal of the game, putting the Raiders up 5-4.
Taylor put the game away 39 seconds later off a pass from Jack Moran (Riverhead, N.Y/Riverhead) as the Raiders went on for the 6-4 victory.
Taylor, Sopczyk, and Daley all had two goals for the Raiders.
Collin Peters (Portland, Ore./Sunset) had 17 saves on the day and lead with four groundballs as he picked up the win for the Raiders.
Mount Union remains at home when they host Hiram, Wednesday March 19 under the lights at 7 pm at Mount Union Stadium.
