Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team rallied in its last at-bat then the pitching staff closed out a 6-3 win over Pitt-Greensburg Friday in the home opener at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders move to 8-3 overall playing its first game of the season up north while Pitt-Greensburg falls to 5-5 on the year.
With the game tied at 3-3 with two outs in the eighth inning, Nick Piotrowski (Macedonia/Nordonia) drove in two runs on a double down the left field line and Sean Mohney (Lodi/Cloverleaf) had an RBI single to put Mount Union up 6-3.
Brandon Bell (Clarion, Pa./Clarion-Limestone) did not allow a hit in the top of the ninth to pick up his first save of the season.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead with as Anthony Morino (Strongsville/Strongsville) had an RBI single -- the first of his four hits on the day -- in the first inning.
Mohney and Morino each drove in runs in the seventh to give Mount Union a 3-0 lead.
Josh Pryor (Cortland/Lakeview) allowed only two hits over the first seven innings but the Bobcats opened the eighth with three straight hits and all of them would come around to score.
Scott Chase (North Ridgeville/St. Ignatius) came out of the pen and retired both batters he faced to pick up his first win of the season.
The game was the start of a five-game weekend homestand as the Raiders host John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. before a non-conference twinbill Sunday at 2 p.m. against St. John Fisher (N.Y.).
