Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union's women's lacrosse knocked off nationally ranked No. 20 Fredonia by a final score of 9-7 Saturday at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders (3-0) were led by Katherine Doraty (Medina/Medina) who had four goals and an assist. Taylor Pensyl (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) added three goals in the win.
Nikki Bonaduce (Kennett Square, Pa/Unionville) made eight saves in goal for the Raiders.
Fredonia (1-1) was led by Kristie Kleine and Katie Miller who scored three goals and two goals, respectively.
Mount Union got on the scoreboard first with Pensyl's first goal of the game just 1:15 into the game. Fredonia tied the game at a goal apiece before the Raiders scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead. The Blue Devils scored the last goal of the half to cut the lead to 5-2 at the break.
The Raiders held a 7-3 lead before Fredonia's Kleine went on a personal 3-0 run to trim the lead to one goal, 7-6. Pensyl and Doraty closed the game with back-to-back goals in the last 10 minutes. Fredonia scored the final goal of the game in the last seconds of the game to make the final score 9-7.
The women's lacrosse team remains at home for their next game against Oberlin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 14.
