Box Score ERIE, Pa. - The Mount Union men's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent Penn-State Behrend, 72-67, Tuesday night in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The Purple Raiders (3-0) had four players score in double figures led by DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) who scored a game-high 16 points.
Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover) tabbed 14 points while Miles Griffin (Massillon/Massillon Jackson) and Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow/Stow) each added 12 and 11 points respectively.
Penn-State Behrend got 15 from Dan Wanker as they fall to 1-2 on the season
The Lions had an early 13-6 start to lead the Raiders with 14:29 remaining in the first half. Stenger put up 10 points for Mount Union to tie up the game at 16.
A Diallo Niamke (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) layup gave the Raiders their first lead of the game, 18-16, with 9:35 left.
Three ties and two lead changes occurred within three minutes of the period until the Lions rallied for a 15-5 run giving them a 37-30 lead over the Raiders going into halftime.
The Raiders came out early in the second half with two three-pointers by JJ Kukura (Alliance/Alliance) and Bower-Malone to trail by three, 39-36.
A pair of free-throws by Jackson put Mount Union within in two points of Penn-State Behrend, 45-43, with 15:00 minutes remaining.
Another Niamke layup gave Mount Union a 47-46 lead over the Lions and sparked a five point run with 7:38 left in the half.
The Lions came back within one, 55-54, but the Raiders responded with a three point shot by Tanner Slack (New Concord/John Glenn) to put them back up by four, 58-54.
Two straight threes by Griffin put the Raiders up 63-56, their largest lead of the game, with 1:45 remaining.
The Lions got back within four points of the Raiders but Mount Union kept their lead the rest of the way defeating the Lions.
Mount Union hosts Albion (Mich.) in their home opener Saturday, November 26 at 3:00 PM in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
