Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Junior Marjie McNamara recorded a career-tying seven points in the Mount Union women's lacrosse season opening 9-7 win over Fredonia (N.Y.) Sunday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
McNamara recorded four goals and three assists for seven points to lead the Purple Raiders (1-0). Sophomore Ashley Bernardi (Medina/Medina) and freshman Danielle Rohrman (Olney, Md./Sherwood) followed with two goals each.
Fredonia (0-2) got on the board 5:54 into the game when Audrey Yokopovich found the back of the Mount Union goal. McNamara evened the score 32 seconds later after recording the first goal of the season for Mount Union. The Blue Devils recorded two more goals before McNamara slipped the ball past the Fredonia goalie after receiving a pass from sophomore Alyssa Rydell (Medina/Medina) to cut the lead to one.
Rohrman recorded her first collegiate goal with 8:57 remaining in the half to tie the game at three points a piece. Fredonia scored one additional time in the half, but another goal by McNamara and a goal by Bernardi put the Raiders up 5-4 at halftime.
Mount Union opened the second half with a three-goal run, beginning with a goal by junior Britt Klosterman (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) 29 seconds into play. Bernardi scored her second goal of the game with 27:36 on the clock; Rohrman did the same just 22 seconds later, giving the Raiders an 8-4 lead over Fredonia. The Blue Devils recorded three goals in the half, but a final goal by McNamara sealed a 9-7 victory for the Raiders.
Mount Union next hosts Dickinson (Pa.) at Mount Union Stadium on Saturday, Mar. 4 at noon.
