Men's Basketball: Raiders Run Past Carnegie Mellon to 2-0

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Five players scored in double figures as Mount Union posted a 94-72 win over Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) in a non-conference game Friday at Timken Gymnasium.

Sophomore Braedon Poole (McDonald) had career-high 16 points as the Purple Raiders are now 2-0 on the season.

Mount Union other double digit scorers were senior Tanner Slack (New Concord / John Glenn) with 15, freshman Chris Painter (Akron / St. Vincent-St. Mary) and sophomore Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) each had 13 and junior Logan Hill (Massillon / Jackson) had 11 points.

Ethan Miller had 16 to lead Carnegie Mellon (0-2).

Three three-point field goals -- two by Slack -- to start the game got Mount Union out to an early 9-4 lead but Carnegie Mellon went on an 18-10 run and took a 22-19 lead with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half. Painter then buried a pair of three pointers to spark a 22-6 Raider rally that was finished with a Hill dunk that made it 41-28 with 2:37 remaining in the period. Mount Union would take a 44-32 lead into the locker room.

Carnegie Mellon got no closer than 10 points the rest of the way as the Raiders went on to the 22-point win.

Mount Union hits the road next weekend playing games at Adrian (Mich.) next Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. and at Trine (Ind.) next Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.
