WOOSTER, Ohio – Mount Union's men's track and field team, ranked No. 3 in the nation, won the Wooster Invitational Saturday at The College of Wooster.
The Purple Raiders won a pair of events and had five second place finishes as they totaled 204.5 points which lapped the 10-team field as second place Geneva (Pa.) had 101.5 points.
Mount Union went 1-2 in both the 400 and 800 meter races. Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek / Garaway) won the 400 with a time of 50.30 followed by Issac Phillips (Milford, Mich.) at 50.49. Alex Bryan (Geneva) won the 800 at 1:58.40 while James Roth (Massillon / Perry) was second at 1:58.43.
The second places finishes came from Evan Hershberger (Dalton) in the high jump (6-2.25), Marcus Day (Winchester / Eastern Brown) in the javelin (142-10), Cody Fitzwater (Dalton) in the long jump (20-11.25), Jon Wahlie (Lima / Shawnee) in the 1500 meters (3:10.78) and Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) in the 110 meter hurdles (14.80).
Mount Union next hosts the John Homon Invitational next Friday and Saturday, April 5-6 at Mount Union Stadium.
